What’s New?

Wishing a happy retirement to SERT Corrections Officer Juan Sanchez! Congratulations, and we thank you for your service, Sir.

Detective Jason Leavitt and I worked together for several years near the beginning of our careers. We worked our way from DTAC PSU into the Robbery decoy program and then to the Robbery section. Ultimately he landed on the Force Investigation Team where he served faithfully for many years. We had some good times doing those robbery decoys and I learned a lot from him….it was honestly one of my favorite times in my career personally, and if I’m not mistaken I think he would say the same…. just a really good group of people and some fun stories. As I already told him, he was a great cop, but more importantly he’s a good example of a great/faithful husband and father. Proud to know him and call him a friend. I’m super happy that he now gets to enjoy some retirement. We are grateful Detective Leavitt, for your 26 years of service. This was a very kind gift from his squad, and it was fun to sneak a little decoy in there for old times sake. We wish you the best, Sir!

We are very grateful for your 50 years of service, Sir! A well-deserved retirement. Wishing you and your family the best.

Over FIFTY years of service?! Yowser. A very impressive career. We are very grateful for Linda Kalekas’ service. We wish you a very happy retirement.

Detective Dillon Wedewer is being promoted to Sergeant! Congrats, Sir. It’s a great accomplishment. We thank you for your service.

Congrats to Officer Douglas Taylor on his retirement after 30 years of service in New Mexico and Nevada! We are grateful for your service, Sir, and wish you the best.

Sergeant Craig Dunn is retiring and moving on to the next chapter of his life. We congratulate him and thank him for his service. I had the pleasure of working with him in the Robbery Section many years ago before he promoted. This was a fun one to do with a nod to his Irish Heritage. Very unique. A kind gift from his Section and friends. We all wish you the best.

In gratitude for his service at Northwest Area Command, we thank Captain Raul Rodriguez for his service.

We congratulate Detective Robichaud on his recent retirement. A great career, mostly served in the Narcotics Unit (17 years in that unit alone). We are grateful for your service, Sir, and wish you the very best in what’s to come.

Wishing a very happy retirement to Sergeant Sean Berndt! We are grateful for your service, Sir. Enjoy what’s to come.

I absolutely love some of these projects that are just so unique to the individual/recipient. This one made me laugh a little. Officer Barker, we are grateful for your service, Sir! Wishing you the very best with whatever comes next.

I’ve been too busy to post much lately, but check this one out! It was really fun to make and is probably the most unique flag I’ve done yet. They requested a “Total Recall” movie themed flag…specifically regarding a strange scene where I guess Arnold Schwarzenegger’s head is coming apart? Haha, very strange, but this was the outcome.

Big shoutout/thanks to Stacie Wichman-Roch who planned and arranged to have this flag built and delivered to Lt. Erik Lloyd’s squad/unit! They are certainly suffering a big loss and probably needed a little pick-me-up. As time goes by I hope it will ever-serve as a small reminder of Erik. It was very thoughtful of you Stacie….thank you. And we are thankful for Lt. Erik Lloyd’s service. I am sorry for everyone’s loss.

I have learned a lot after making these cornhole sets over the last couple years. What works, what doesn’t, what fails over time, what lasts, etc. This latest set is pretty sweet. Yes, it’s heavy, but it’s heavy on purpose. My own personal set that I made over a year ago was made to be lightweight and it plays horribly. The whole board bounces around every time a beanbag lands….and the beanbags then bounce off….and it’s just not a great set. This latest one has a solid oak frame, a 3/4” maple veneer surface, top of the line cornhole wraps, and three coats of outdoor polyurethane sealant. The legs are customized with carving, and the whole set attaches and can be carried as one unit. There are even lights around the holes for those playing into the evening. I hope the recipients of this Greenbay Packer set enjoy it for years to come…..but, “Go Chargers!”

For those who don’t know, our Mounted Unit has been put out to pasture, as the saying goes. Haha, to soon for jokes? But seriously…I’ve been with Metro for over 20 years, and it’s sad to see this big change. And for the personnel that served in that unit, it means a big life change. So all joking aside, my apologies to those affected. These were fun flags to make, and I hope they serve as a reminder of better times! Thanks for your service, gentlemen.

Other than my ‘verbal judo’ skills, I don’t know a lot about martial arts. So when I was asked to build a karate belt display, I was not sure where to begin. They sent me a picture of their school/dojo emblem (a cool looking snake head), which helped, and I searched the web to get some idears before beginning. The end result is pretty unique I guess, and I hope the recipients love it.

Captain Tyler Wistisen asked for this flag to be made in honor of the men and women serving in the U.S. Army National Guard. We thank you all for your service!

This flag was made for “American Patriot” who is going to be using it during a promotion to hopefully raise some money which will be donated to the IPOF.

This New York Yankees ‘bat and ball’ flag is now in its new home. The recipient is a legit fan from New York now living here with his family in Vegas. I hope this reminds him of his hometown.

Here’s one for a man who served our country in the Army, and now continues to serve as an Officer with the LVMPD. Thank you for your service, Sir.

This was a really fun project. This edge grain cutting board was constructed with almost all cherry and walnut, with just a touch of maple. One side has juice grooves and will serve as the ‘work’ side of the board, and the other is the decorative side with a favorite family recipe engraved into the wood (carrot cake). I hope this cutting board is enjoyed for many years. Boards like this can last a lifetime with proper care.

Congratulations to Officer Steele, who graduated from the LVMPD Police Academy today. That is no easy feat, and we are happy to have him on the team. I hope he enjoys this size large concealment flag. This flag is made from solid oak and is very heavy. Good luck in field training, Officer Steele.

When most of us were kids we received an old-school plastic trophy at the end of each season. And what happens with trophies? They take up a lot of room and gather dust, and ultimately (in my case) end up in the trash…..and someone also just told me their kids use trophies for sword fights, haha. But I was surprised when I found out that old-school trophies are starting to phase out, and instead kids are getting these awesome bling rings similar to what pro athletes get….well, minus the gold and diamonds. But what a fantastic idea! They are small, they don’t take up a lot of space, you can keep them forever, and I’m told kids love them and pose for cool pictures with them on their fingers…fun stuff. So this is what we came up with as a display case for rings, specifically for baseball players. I’ve seen a few similar things out there, but this one has a 3D effect with the baseball threads and numbers carved into the wood. It holds up to 34 rings, or you can place some baseballs on the shelves. I am so grateful the recipients shared this picture when Kaden received his gift….makes.my.day!

A new design! I hope the recipients like this one as much as my family does….my son wanted to keep it.

Honestly, I was nervous when asked to make this hockey stick display case, as I’d never made one before. But I do enjoy new challenges and all the lessons I learn along the way. Dylan Coghlan is a professional athlete who signed on with the Golden Knights in 2017 and has been playing for the Knights and their affiliate, the Chicago Wolves. It is my understanding that he graciously signed and gave his stick away to a young lady at a game one evening, and now the stick will have a new home/display case. I hope the recipient loves the case. This was a fun challenge for me, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.

This edge-grain board is a bit different. One side has the Marine emblem carved in and will serve as strictly the decorative side. The other side has juice grooves and is the ‘work side.’ With proper care these can last a lifetime.

These shadow box piggy banks are neat, but wow, they’re difficult and time consuming to make. These are made from real wood, real glass, have metal hardware inside, vinyl adhesive lettering on the inside of the glass, a carved wood design on the inside and back of the box, and some small LED lights inside.

I always love the opportunity to make a flag that honors those who have served in the military. In this case, it was a double pleasure to make a flag for someone who is both a Marine and now an Officer with the LVMPD. I hope he loves the flag.

Joe LePore needs bigger shirts, haha. But seriously, the dude is a stud. He was a great Sergeant to work for in Robbery, but he’s now been promoted to Lieutenant. It’s a heck of an accomplishment and his squad asked me to make him a flag and gave me some creative freedom. For those who don’t know, Joe has been a competitive body builder, and it made me think of the phrase, “He’s as strong as a bull.” So with that theme in mind, I hope he appreciates what we did here. Congrats on the promotion!

Jason “Jr” Nelson is another detective that just left the Robbery Section due to his promotion to Sergeant. Prior to his time in Robbery, Jr. was a Gangs Detective. Also, Jr. is from Chicago and loves the White Sox. So his squad asked me to make him a flag incorporating some of these things, and we hope he loves it. Jr. was one of the best detectives I know. He will be missed. Congrats on the promotion!

Captain Ryan Graham of the Las Vegas Fire Department is giving this flag to the men and women working at Station # 7. I was honored to make it!

Ted Weirauch recently left the Robbery Section after being promoted to Sergeant. To keep this short, he is one of the best detectives we’ve had in Robbery, and he will be missed. This ‘Wanted Poster,’ robbery themed flag, is in honor of Ted, who is a proud Native American….and he has one heck of a sense of humor. After all, he dubbed himself, “Chief Catchawho!” I hope Ted loves it. Congrats on the deserved promotion!

Well, I’m truly humbled to have been given the honor to make this “survivor flag” for Officer Bachman who just graduated the police academy today! What a great gift idea by Kelly Tinker! And what a great triumph for Officer Bachman to have survived the October 1 incident, and now she’s just accomplished a really hard thing to successfully endure an LVMPD Academy. I don’t personally know Officer Bachman just yet, but I’m already proud of her and hope the next phase (field training) goes well. Congratulations!

Our Sergeant was just promoted to Lieutenant and the squad gifted him this unique ‘Robbery Flag’ as a going-away gift.

I was given the opportunity to build a birthday gift for a young lady. It is sort of a shadow box piggy bank, with a carved-in picture of America. I hope she loves it!

So there I was, planning an epic Old Glory, red, white, and blue flag with a golden eagle centerpiece…..and then I lost my mind. You see, after carving out the eagle, I saw its open talons and heard it speak to me, “I’m hungry.” Yah, yah, I know, I breathe a lot of paint fumes in my shop. But it made me ask, “Well, what do you wanna eat, pal?” It answered (which is worrisome), “I want fish buddy…more specifically, I want San Jose Shark.” And then the red, white, and blue went out the window and I went hockey crazy (that’s a real thing) and painted this whole thing gold and black and carved in a tasty shark. So yah….I have problems. Anywhooo, I proudly showed my wife and daughters and they all basically hated it….stating the Knights have nothing to do with eagles. But I’m like, “Hello? GOLDEN eagle….GOLDEN Knights!” They said I was stretching it. Well, you can’t please them all. But then my two boys came downstairs to take a look and freaked out they liked it so much! So, maybe it’s a guy thing. Go Knights Go!

I shoulda’ been a firefighter, just like my dad. This flag is complete and up for grabs. It is a size small, 11.25” x 21”, and ready to hang. If anyone knows a fireman who might want it….

What’s new, you ask? BIG things in my LITTLE shop! I am now the very proud owner of a beginning level CNC machine. It will speed a few things up that I typically do by hand, but it also opens up a whole new world of possibilities. I’m excited to start learning.

I was recently asked whether or not I could make a two-piece cake stand…..the wooden stand itself, and a piece of metal to sit in the stand. A new challenge! While it doesn’t look complicated, and it really isn’t I guess, it did take me a little while to learn how to cut a perfect hexagon. And bending metal was new for me as well. So I enjoyed the project and learned some new things as well.

This piece of wooden wall art was made for my daughter. I love her quite a lot.

Marine Themed U.S. Concealment Flag

Approximately 19.5” x 37”. This concealment flag has gas struts, Kaizen foam, a motion sensor light, and is secured with a hidden RFID locking system with an external emergency auxillary port for power if the batteries fail.

NEW! Small sized flags

I’ve had multiple requests, so I’ve reformatted my setup and will now offer small sized flags as well. This new small size will be awesome in tighter spaces, cubicles, bedrooms, etc.
